Cancer, the “BIG C”, how could this ever be a “Season of Joy” for anyone. First, I don’t mean to minimize this for anyone else who has had to endure it. Everyone’s journey is different and the impact of cancer is stroked with a very broad brush.
The story below was written in March of this year. For those of you who don't know my story, this article is a portrayal of the mess I was making out of my life. I heaped heart ache and devastation on my- self and much worse, my family. I let Satan burrow deep into my soul and convince me that there was no hope for me. It wasn't until I entered Brother Bryan's, that I realized that I was not alone in my despair. I had found solace in a group of seventy men that society and themselves had given up on.
Easter is upon us and as we move through the week leading up to Christ's death and resurrection most of us will think a lot about the burden that was on Him and His suffering on the cross. That's certainly appropriate. But have you ever stopped to think about the twelve Disciples and what that week was like for them?
When my first child was born I remember thinking, “I want to protect every minute of this new life”, because she was so precious, beautiful and vulnerable. Realizing that these were her first breaths of life I felt an overwhelming responsibility to ensure that she learn all of the right lessons in life - starting with the story of God.
There are everyday reasons that we may start to feel overwhelmed as Christmas comes near: presents to buy, food to bake, worries about finances, etc. We can be so busy trying to do everything we feel we have to do, that we don’t stop and be still long enough to truly enjoy the advent season and experience how God is working in it.
I had the incredible opportunity to go with the Embrace youth group to Wayfarer Camp at Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky, July 18 - 22. It was an experience that I think all of us will remember for a very long time. It was the first time some of the kids were so far away from their families and for such a long period of time.
