Through Embrace Kids in the Harbor, we seek to connect every child from birth until they begin kindergarten with a safe, nurturing environment to grow and know three basic truths: GOD MADE ME. GOD LOVES ME. JESUS WANTS TO BE MY FRIEND FOREVER.
Through our computerized check-in system, each child receives a nametag sticker each Sunday that includes a unique alphanumeric code. Parents receive a tag with the corresponding alphanumeric code and use this to pick up their child after worship, ensuring safe return of each child to the correct parent. Only a parent or other trusted adult (not a child or youth) may be the one to use this tag to pick up your child.
Should a need arise with your child, this same alphanumeric code will be displayed on the screen in the worship space to notify you to report to the Harbor in order to address your child’s need.
Be sure to let us know at check-in if your child has any allergies or special needs so that we may notify their leaders of the best ways to accommodate your child in our environment.
NURSERY (0-24 MONTHS)
Infants are welcome in our nursery space as soon as their parents are comfortable entrusting them with our caregivers. Each child will be assigned two specific caregivers that will be present in the space on alternating weeks. If you are a nursing mom, you are welcome to accompany your child into our space during the service to feed or rock them, or there is a nursing moms’ area in the back corner of the adult worship space as well.
You may bring a diaper bag with your child containing bottles, snacks, diapers, or other essentials. Please ask for an extra nametag to be printed at check-in to label the diaper bag so that your child’s nursery caregiver will know which bag belongs to them. Also let your child’s caregiver know if your child is due for a bottle, snack, or nap during the time they’re with us, and we will do our best to keep your child on their normal schedule.
Each month in the nursery, we have a new song and a new Bible story to emphasize one of our basic truths, shared during a 5-10 minute circle time for any babies and toddlers who show interest. We repeat the same song and the same story (in different ways) each week of the month. Children receive a simple snack during this time as well. Beginning around 12 months old, or when your child shows signs of readiness, they will also participate in a craft activity to reinforce that story or truth.
2 YEAR OLDS
In our 2-year-old space, children are placed in a small group of no more than 6 children with two small group leaders, as well as a few middle-school youth helpers, who meet with children on alternating weeks.
Feel free to send a bag with diapers, pull-ups, or a change of clothes, but we ask that children in this space finish all food or drinks before they enter the space. If your child is potty training, please let their leaders know so that the child may be asked or reminded about using the restroom during their time with us as needed.
Children this age are introduced to a “Bottom Line” each month in a question and answer format. Each Sunday they join the 3-5 year olds for a 10-15 minute large group time where they sing songs, practice a memory verse, and learn a new story or truth from the Bible to reinforce the Bottom Line of the month. Following this time, they return to their small groups to participate in toddler-friendly activities that reinforce the Bible story of the day and Bottom Line.
3-5 YEAR OLDS
Preschoolers aged 3-5 are engaged with community and scriptural truth from the moment they arrive until they leave on Sundays. They are in small groups of no more than 8 children with two small group leaders and a few middle-school youth helpers, who meet with children on alternating weeks.
We begin our time on Sundays with games and activities to create community connections and give a teaser for our story of the day. Children this age are introduced to a “Bottom Line” each month in a question and answer format. This begins during a 10-15 minute large group time, including songs, a monthly memory verse, and a story that reinforces that month’s Bottom Line. Following large group time, children return to their small groups for activities to reinforce the verse, story, and Bottom Line, as well as a group prayer journal, suited especially for teaching preschool-aged kids how to pray.
We ask that children this age finish all food or drinks and leave personal toys at home or with parents before entering the space. If your child is potty training, please let their leaders know when they arrive, and feel free to send pull-ups or a change of clothes in case of an accident.
